Translation Notes

The first four lines of this prayer (as rendered here) are filled with poetic repetition: the word דוֹר (dor), meaning "generation", in the first line, the word נֵצַח (netzach), meaning "eternity", in the third, the root ק-ד-ש (k-d-sh), meaning "holy", in the fourth, and the sound גּ-ד (g-d) in the words נַגִּיד (nagid) and גׇּדְלֶךָ (god'lecha) in the second. The final line also mirrors these beginning lines: repeating that God is גָּדוֹל (gadol), "great," as in the second line, and קָדוֹשׁ (kadosh), "holy," as in the fourth line.
